Dining out in Berwickshire & North Northumberland
As our head office is based in the Ramparts Business Park in Berwick-upon-Tweed this is an area we know well so all the below restaurants are tried and tested on a fairly regular basis by us. We hope you enjoy our recommendations as much as we do:
Cheviot Tap : Cheviot Brewery have an onsite tap bar which is the hub of events at the brewery. It is possibly the best place to sample their cask ales and they offer stone baked pizza freshly prepared and cooked on site at the weekends. It has such a fun and relaxed vibe, particularly on a summers event.

The Ship Inn: a great little pub nestled in a beautiful square of cottages overlooking Lo Newton Beach. With its own microbrewery next to it and a small but busy kitchen cooking everything freshly to order this is a must visit spot. We really do recommend booking as they don’t have many tables.

The Jolly Fisherman at Craster: a tastefully refurbished pub with stunning views. The combination of the sea views and delicious home cooking and tasty ales will ensure that you always have a great time here. They are famous for their Craster Kippers and Craster Crab- you won’t taste better. Fun fact, Celia and Patrick went here on their first date- so it holds fond memories for the team at Paton & Co.

Joiner Arms: an excellent village pub located in the heart of Newton-by-the-Sea serving amazing gastro pub food. We just love a beach walk followed by a Sunday lunch here- highly recommend Lower Newton beach for a walk to work up your appetite!

Potted Lobster: Bamburgh where the Potted Lobster is located is a must visit spot, and this is one of our favourite restaurants when we have guests staying and want to treat them to some fresh, locally sourced seafood. It is such a relaxed yet elegant dining experience and the food is always excellent. It’s a wonderful place to while away an afternoon or spend an evening! The Potted Lobster isn’t huge so you really do need to book ahead.

Lord Crewe in Bamburgh: situated an easy stroll from Bamburgh beach, overlooking the village green with views up towards the castle this is a very relaxed pub/ hotel/ restaurant, and most importantly for dog lovers they have a section that allows furry friends to accompany you for your post walk drink or meal. We are even very brave sometimes and take our two children Jock (2 years old) & Freddie (1 yr old) with us and the friendly staff and they even put up with them! Delicious food and a friendly atmosphere, what more could you want.

The Barn at Beal: with the most stunning views of the North Northumberland coast line, including Holy Island, this is a family friendly coffee shop and restaurant. They have tables both inside and out (although outside operates on a first come first served basis) and there are dog friendly tables available too. With a play park for the kids and a large car park it is an easy place to meet friends. The lunch menu uses local produce where possible and they have a great selection of cakes if you are just popping in for for coffee.

Northern Edge Coffee: so this coffee kept Patrick going through out lockdown- it is without a doubt the best in the area! Norther Edge opened up their Coffee House during lockdown so they could combine their love of coffee with delicious food and rustic atmosphere- and they have nailed it! If you are in Berwick Upon Tweed then it is a must try. Their freshly baked cakes and daily flat bread sandwiches will keep you going back again and again!

The Cross Inn, Paxton: so you wont get a more friendly or accommodating team- we love going here. The menu is full of yummy comforting foods and they have a great selection of drinks behind the bar. We always recommend this as a great local!
