Meet the team

Welcome to Paton & Co

Patrick and Celia Paton launched Paton & Co to offer a fresh and dynamic approach to buying and selling property. Based in Berwick-upon-Tweed, the team at Paton & Co bring a wealth of experience in the residential property market complemented by key marketing and customer service skills, together ensuring that the agency is able to deliver the best results for their clients.

Established in early 2021, and having expanded over the last couple of years with the arrival of Property Negotiators Chloe Riva and Belinda Montgomery, Property Assistant Katie Moore and Operations Manager Tamara Inness, Paton & Co offers a personal service focusing on first class property presentation and the lifestyle that each home can provide.

Patrick and Celia also want to create a community around buying and selling property that goes further than a financial transaction, and are committed to doing this while keeping fees at a realistic level for their clients.

“For almost 20 years we have enjoyed helping clients buy and sell property, and now, working together with our team at Paton & Co, this process is even more rewarding as we see our clients achieving the best results.”

Patrick led us through a totally seamless buying experience. His professional, yet friendly and personable approach left us in no doubt that we were dealing with a genuine caring agent. From his attention to detail in conducting us through two viewings to the final phone call advising us that we had made a successful offer it was clearly evident that we were fortunate enough to be sharing this major event with the Paton Company. This positive buying experience will surely be reflected by anyone seeking a selling agent. We have no hesitation in giving Paton & Co our highest recommendation. You will not be disappointed.

Patrick Paton

After spending time in Australia, Patrick returned to Scotland to start his property career at The Flat Company in Edinburgh, where he specialised in residential lettings. This career move evolved into a keen passion for property, and as he gained in knowledge and experience of the property market, Patrick’s career progressed to several senior roles with some of the country’s leading estate agencies including Knight Frank and Smiths Gore, before more recently becoming a partner at Rettie.

Having been an estate agent for many years, Patrick is familiar with the negative clichés that can be associated with this profession, and he prides himself in offering honest and upfront advice that is thoroughly researched. Patrick won’t over value or over promise just to win business. Rather, Patrick uses his experience of the market and his astute eye for property to ensure that clients get the right advice when discussing their largest financial asset.

Celia

Celia Paton

Following her Marketing degree, Celia started a career in property marketing for an international estate agent, and subsequently learnt the art of customer service when running a successful concierge company in Edinburgh, offering a tailored service to both individuals and companies. A short stint agency side saw Celia learning the importance of digital marketing while working with several big clients including John Lewis and Pizza Express. Switching back to property marketing in 2015, Celia became Head of Marketing for a Scottish property firm that enjoyed rapid growth to become Scotland’s largest estate agent – largely thanks to its forward-thinking approach to marketing.

After meeting Patrick and moving to the Scottish Borders, Celia set up a holiday home management company. After the arrival of the two lively Paton boys, Jock and Freddie, this company was taken over by an employee to allow for more family time. Now, with the launch of Paton & Co, Celia is excited to be working alongside Patrick to bring their vision for this dynamic business to life.

Tamara

Tamara Inness

For Operations Manager Tamara Inness, property is in her DNA. Tamara’s grandfather had his own estate agency in London, which was continued by her father, and this passion for property flowed into the next generation when Tamara and her brother started their own company in London in 1999, creating serviced offices and an entrepreneurial private members club. Tamara also helped run her father’s portfolio of high end residential rental properties on Sloane Square, gaining invaluable customer service experience in the process.

After moving to the Scottish Borders, where she lives with her husband and young son, Tamara launched a successful tweed business, which she sold in 2013. Tamara’s husband also works in property, and the couple have a portfolio of residential rental properties in Edinburgh and Stirling. As our Operations Manager, Tamara will be bringing her superb organisational skills and versatility to the team, not to mention her years of experience working in prime property, ensuring a smooth and efficient sales and purchase experience for our clients.

Chloe Riva

Chloe Riva

Born and raised in the heart of East Lothian, Chloe started her early career managing a rehabilitation centre at a vet practice before following her passion into property with Rettie & Co, where she managed over 130 rental properties across East Lothian and the Scottish Borders.

Chloe then relocated to live near Wooler in North Northumberland with her partner, to be close to the family farm. At this time she also transitioned into property sales, which is an area she thoroughly enjoys and has thrived in. Having worked for George F. White for the past three years, customer service and efficiency have been key to Chloe’s approach and she always strives to go above and beyond for her clients.

Chloe has developed her knowledge further and is qualified in Level 3 Award in Sale of Residential Property and Level 6 Award in Residential Letting and Property Management.

Chole joined Paton & Co in 2023 as she wanted to be part of a dynamic and forward-thinking estate agency business, and she has been using her skills and experience to help our clients achieve their property goals ever since.

Belinda Montgomery

Belinda Montgomery

After starting a career in London working in sales and marketing for global agencies, including brands such as Häagen-Dazs, Nike, Pepsi, Calvin Klein, and even the Spice Girls, Belinda decided to take these skills and apply them to an industry that was in her blood: property.

With her father owning JB Fraser’s, the first timber frame company in Scotland, Belinda grew up in a family who were constantly buying, renovating, and selling properties. She embarked on a successful career in property development both for herself and professionally for clients, renovating properties up and down the country, and her final property completed in the Scottish Borders was subsequently sold by Paton & Co.

On meeting Belinda as a client, it was clear that her diverse experience, combined with excellent communications skills and focus on client relationships, would be a great asset. Her understanding of the local property market in the central Borders places Belinda in a prime position when advising clients, and we are delighted that she has joined the team to work as a property negotiator.

Katie Moore

Katie Moore

Growing up in rural North Northumberland, Katie has had a love for property from a young age. While as a teenager she always saw herself working in the property industry, she found herself starting her career at a luxury spa in Northumberland. She then moved on to a varied career in the luxury country clothing industry, from face-to-face retail and helping with events and photoshoots to online customer service.

Since moving into her home near the Borders town of Kelso with her partner, Katie found herself getting hooked by her love for property and interiors all over again, and this motivated her to pursue a career path within the industry.

In her new role as a property assistant here at Paton & Co, Katie is relishing the pace of property life and enjoys being one of the first points of contact for buyers and sellers. She is proud to be part of such an innovative business that strives for strong connections and quality customer service.
