Introduction to Biggar

, ,

Biggar is a historic market town, located on the northern edge of the southern uplands.  The town is host to an active and thriving community who enjoy all aspects of rural life whilst being close to larger towns and cities.  Lanark and Peebles are under 30mins drive whilst Edinburgh City Centre is 30miles and Glasgow can be reached within an hour.

The high street is bustling with independent shops, cafes and restaurants.  A warm day will see a long queue of people waiting to cool down with ice cream from the famous Taylor’s of Biggar, one of the town’s longest serving businesses.  Others may be on a day trip with the children to the famous Purves Puppet Theatre or a visit to Biggar & Upper Clydesdale Museum.  Those wishing to stretch their legs may ascend the nearby Tinto Hill which overlooks the town.

Biggar Little Festival takes place in October and goes from strength to strength, attracting well known names to perform locally.  Biggar is also famous for it’s New Year Bonfire which dates back to before 1836.
